Wedding Photographers and the Challenges They Face

A Wedding photographer’s work can be very challenging even to the professionals who have been around in the business for so long. The main job of wedding photographers is to document the special day but not just to shoot here and there. It is the job of the wedding photographer to bring out the best side of the wedding day through the photos he will create. Yet each wedding is different from one another and the turn of events will be very different in each wedding. All of these, the photographer should deal with in the most professional way

One most common challenge for any photographer is a bad lighting. Lighting is what photography is most concerned about. Setups of lighting can be very tricky in most venues and churches. Some venues even have really poorly lit areas. The proper way to deal with this is to use the tripod and the slow shutter as the ceremony happens. After the ceremony, reflectors and strobes can then be used.

Another challenge to a wedding photographer which is related to the venue of the wedding is the ‘not so good’ location. The venue may in general be an awesome place but there may be areas there that may not look so well in photos. To deal with unsightly backgrounds, the photographer can blur out the background by changing the field setting depth.

Time is of the essence, yet some people especially the participants in the wedding ceremony like bridesmaids and groomsmen can arrive quite late. This can be very frustrating not just to the wedding photographers who need to ensure everyone’s picture is taken, but also to the couple as late comers can alter the flow of the ceremony that they have planned. For this, the photographer may suggest to the couple to advise their wedding attendants to arrive to the venue about 30 minutes earlier than the exact time of the ceremony.

Though ironic as it may seem, some brides can become upset on her very special day. There are many possible reasons for this and one is that the stress of the wedding preparation gets on her right on the day of the wedding. It could also be that the bride is too nervous and anxious about how the day would go. No matter is the reason for this distressed attitude, it is part of the wedding photographer’s job to always bring a smile on her face. It will be helpful for the photographer to have some sense of humor so he can casually crack a joke to the bride to make her smile. Complimenting her and saying she looks awesome in her dress or make up can also help ease the tension and make her really pretty on her wedding video and photos.

Emergencies can happen even during weddings like lipstick marks on teeth or makeup stain on gown or even ripped gown. Though it is the bride who should carry a wedding survival kit, there will be no harm done if the photographer would also carry a repair kit with him and this can even add favorable points for him.

Finally there’s the equipment failure for the photographer. This is why all photographers, especially those covering a major event like weddings are supposed to bring with them back up equipments, not to be left in the car but to carry with him inside the venue.
